Willy, May 2003

Willy is a Brittany (formerly known as Brittany Spaniels) born on March 13, 2003 in New Hope, Pennsylvania. We got him at 8 weeks old on May 10, 2003, the day most of these pictures were taken. His official AKC registered name is William the Conqueror.

Brittany's are hunting dogs used as pointers and retrievers. As such they are highly intelligent, hardy and active. They also make excellent family dogs and their full grown size (approx 2 ft high at the head and 35 lbs) make them more suitable for home living and travel than some larger sporting dogs.

Willy's breeder has bred and maintained his maternal line for six generations. His direct maternal line (mother, grand-mother etc) have been the breeder's active hunting dogs and faimly pets but have not been shown and, therefore, do not have champion credentials. However, his paternal line and male maternal ancestors have been show and field dogs and have manyt excellent championship credentials. Many of these forebearers come from Marjo's Brittany Kennel in New Jersy, including Willy's father, Marjo's Ruff 'Em Up Bill.

Willy is of course a replacement for Clancy, our Irish setter, who passed away suddenly last fall at the age of 10. Willy has already proved a worthy successor to fill the void left and to accompany us on walks and trips to Vermont.
